Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival

Sunday November 23th 2008,
Ourimbah State Forest.

Thanks to all of you who came out last year and competed in the Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival.  We had alot of fun and hope you did as well. from all of the positive feedback we got from competitors and with the help of our great sponsors, the team here at Wannaride hope to make this a yearly event around the same time each November.

The Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival presented by JP Morgan and Kona is an exciting one day mountain bike race being held at Ourimbah State Forest approximately 100km north from the heart of the Sydney CBD.

Ourimbah has been well known for its cross country track and downhill courses for some time, and thanks to the efforts of the Central Coast Ourimbah MTB Club the trails are looking better than ever.

The festival will be held on Sunday November 23th 2008, with the main event being the 8 ¼ Hours Of Power (we wanted to make it just that little bit better than all the other eight hour events).

It will be an eight hour and 15 minute race, based on the standard XC race format.

There’s over $20,000 of cash and prizes to be won or given away, with elite solo riders going for over $3000 cash in prize money!

Categories:

We will have all of the usual rider categories, and have decided to keep the same format as last year with the solo riders.  Male solo
riders placing 1st / 2nd / 3rd will get cash prizes, with 4th and 5th placed riders getting sponsor's product prizes.  Sorry to
the boys who placed 4th and 5th last year, we forgot to give their prizes on the day, but thanks to Deuter we were able to ship out a
couple killer hydration backpacks to these guys for their hard effort.

There will also again be the "JP Morgan Corporate Teams Challenge" to encourage grudge matches between the corporate high flyers to be settled on the track. Last year the team from Toyota took out the win and went home with the very impressive "Fat Tyre Festival Cup".  Good on ya boys!  This year we have decided to make the corporate teams challenge a bit more, well, challenging. Instead of four a four rider team category, the corporate challenge will be teams of three.  Should make it a bit tougher race and make the win all that much more sweet.

There will again be a Singlespeed solo category as well as a $100 cash prize for fastest lap a prizes for fastest Cyclocross lap as well. We have a new addition this year as well, Commonwealth Bank has jumped on board as a sponsor and is putting up a $200 cash prize for the "Start Line Hole Shot".  Basically the first rider through the gates at the start will get $200 cash! It's a big climb though, so start training.

Prizes:

Cash prizes and trophies will be on offer for men and women solo riders and everyone else will be given prizes and trophies accordingly for their category.

There will also be heaps of giveaways generously provided by our great sponsors as well as the big grand prize of a 2009 Kona One20 go anywhere full suspension mountain bike to be drawn at the awards ceremony.  Good prizes for hard efforts...

More, more, more:

There will be a bike toss happening throughout the event, so come have a go at winning a prize for the farthest throw.

demo bikes will be available from Kona as well as product displays from our sponsors.  Please visit our sponsor's websites by clicking on the logos on the right.  They have some outstanding products and this race would not be possible without their generous support.

Come out and have some fun, go hard, and enjoy the day.

The race will be on Sunday November 23th from 8:45am to 5pm.  Registration will be open on Saturday November 22th from 2pm until 5pm and on Sunday the 23th from 6:30am until 8am. The course will be open for pre-riding on Saturday from 1pm until 5pm.  Camping and toilet facilities will be available on the Saturday as well, so feel free to come out a make a weekend of it.
