Wannaride MTB Skills Clinics

Welcome riders to what we hope will be a very worthwhile experience for both you and our team of instructors.  Each class will be set up for and tailored to the skill levels of each individual rider.  We look forward to gaining experience from teaching just the same as you will gain valuable riding skills from our staff.

"Capital Punishment Warm Up" Class -  All skill levels welcome – open to 25 riders - Ourimbah State Forest - Saturday, May 22, 2010 - 9am to 4pm

$130 pp – Lunch and insurance included

The very well maintained and groomed single track of Ourimbah State Forest is the ideal location for this class.  The "Capital Punishment Warm Up" clinic is designed to provide something for everyone.  Whether you are doing the 50km or 100km race, or not racing at all, this clinic will be designed for all ages and riding abilities.  If you are brand new to a mountain bike, a seasoned weekend warrior, or a shaved leg "elite" racer, our instructors will cover the A-Z of riding techniques and bike handling. Don't be shy, if you are only just learning to ride, we would love to have you out there at the track.  It's actually great fun to see someone start the day wobbly and unsure of themselves and finish the day going down a section of trail they never would have imagined riding before.  As well, if you have been a keen rider for a few years now and want to learn to ride single track faster, corner harder, or tackle that technical bit of trail, come and join us for a day on the track.

In the morning session of the class, the instructors will start with a quick fit up of each rider on their bike to insure proper riding position.  We will then split riders into groups according to skill level, confidence, and enthusiam.  Then we will move into a step by step instruction on bike handling, low and high speed cornering, braking, and proper falling techniques (it’s funny, but learning to fall correctly is all part of the fun too).  Again, all tailored for each individual rider's level of experience and skill.

Then around noon, the team from Wannaride will serve up a big healthy (and not so healthy) BBQ lunch complete with drinks, sweets, fruits, and salads. (Vegetarian options will be available on request)

After lunch we’ll jump feet first into our afternoon session.  In this part of the course teams of instructors will take groups off to a different section of the track and concentrate on particular skills.  For example, the more entry level riders may continue on with the finer points of bike handling and concentrate on areas of their riding that need the most work.  Whereas the more gung ho of you out there may go off and learn to do drop offs and technical climbing.    The second  part of the day will definitely be more fine tuned to each rider and the skills that they most want to learn that day.

The course will start to wind down at around 3:30pm with a question and answer session with our instructors.  Feel free to ask even the most basic questions or give us your feedback about things you learned during the day.  We highly value your feedback, so please use this time to let us know how you liked the class.  Then at 4pm we send you out into the big wide world, all full of new found confidence and ready to tackle any obstacle that your local trail throws at you.

"Girl's Day Out" - MTB Skills Class: No Limit on # of riders - All skill levels welcome - Ourimbah State Forest - April 11, 2010 - 9am to 4pm

$130 pp – Lunch and insurance included

This course will be set up and run exactly like the above course except that we invite only girls to come out and participate on this day.  It will be a great opportunity for girls to meet other girls that ride and create a contact base for future rides and races.  An all girls clinic may also help take the competitive pressure off of beginner riders who may feel a bit reluctant to learn from their testosterone filled male friends.  Plus girls are more fun and they listen better.  We will have a couple of special guests on hand for this clinic, so stay tuned.  It's gonna be an absolute blast!

The class is open to as many girls as we can get together for a ride.  We'll bring in loads of instructors if needed. All skill levels welcome - from total beginners to fearless trail warriors - we want to make this a big day out on the track.  Tell all of your friends that ride or are thinking of riding.  We really want to promote girls on mountain bikes, so come on out and have a ride with us...

Here's a few pictures of what awaits you...

About Our Instructors:  All of our team has been chosen for not only their years of experience and riding ability, but their patience and friendly vibe

HamoHamish Elliot:  Pro elite rider for Scott Bikes and Rock Star Racing.  Winner of the 2008 Dirt Works 100km Race, 2008 and 2009 Noosa 100km Epic, 2009 Mont 24 Hour winning team member, 2nd at the 2008 Fat Tyre Festival, and well gets on the podium at just about every other event so lets move on. He’s super fit and one of the smoothest riders that you’ll ever see. If you want to learn to go as fast as possible on a cross country bike, he’s the one to show you.
Mick RossMick Ross:  Pro elite DH rider for GT in 2005/2006.  Now he’s busy travelling and writing as the sub editor for one of the best MTB mags ever, Australian Mountain Bike.  Probably one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet, he is the main man when it comes to technical riding and big drops.
Hugh
Hugh Flower:  Instructor at several Sydney based skills clinics and Cycling NSW girls cycling classes, author of the Sydney Trail Guide, bike shop owner, barista, adventure racer, and an all around legend on anything with two wheels.  The list just goes on and on.  Hugh has a wealth of information to pass on, so if you have any questions at all about anything that has to do with mountain biking, just corner him and fire away.
chrisChris Wilson:  No claims to fame here really.  He loves riding and racing and is the organizational man behind the scenes.  He’ll also be the one cooking your lunch, so be nice to him or your sausage might accidently fall in the dirt.

All of the above clinics will be open for registration by February 18th.  Each rider will be covered by MTBA liability insurance while out on the course. Hugh and other members of the team are certified in first aid and we are pretty good at applying band aids, so if you fall and do more than scrap a knee, we want you to feel safe and secure while out riding with us.
